NOTICE:
We regret to announce that the 2020 Gem and Mineral Show
is cancelled due to restrictions on gatherings because of CoVID-19 and the subsequent difficulties in insuring the safety of all attendants. We hope to return next year for the 2021 Gem and Mineral Show.

Gem Show Marketing
Denise Galley, Chair
Learn a wide range of digital and print media skills by serving on this energetic and creative team. Can you write or draw or do you enjoy public speaking? This is the team for you. Most of this work is finished months ahead of Show time.
Poster, Postcards and Signage
Carl Lindeman, Chair
Carl’s fresh and innovative art will be featured on this year’s Gem Show poster and postcards. He is looking to borrow some Adobe products for a short period. He also needs help putting up signs before the Show, and taking them down afterward. This is a job for someone who is handy with basic tools. We are also looking for a donation of rope to use with our over-street banners.
Set Up and Take Down
Terry Hauh, Matt Torpy, and Toby Mouring, Chairs
Terry will recruit community service volunteers, and Matt and Toby will guide the setup of tables and chairs for our 60 dealers and other activities. The chairs and tables are not heavy, but to serve on this team, you will need some fitness and muscle.
Food Services
Megan Maurillo and Lawrence Broadway, Chairs
The volunteers will recruit food service providers to serve the public and provide the Dealer Dinner on Friday night. If you enjoy local food, you can help out here by calling, testing (yum), and coordinating.
Silent Auction
Charlotte Lenssen, Chair
Charlotte will collect from our members and friends rock and mineral specimens, slabs, cabs, beads, equipment, tools, finished goods and much more for the Silent Auction. 100% of proceeds benefit the Club. Check your garage, studio and basement for items you don’t want or need which are worthy of the auction, or donate your own handcrafted pieces. Your donation is tax deductible.
Finances
Siggy Palmer, Chair
Siggy didn’t yet admit she is Chair, but she has her finger on the pulse of the Show’s finances, and will make sure every cent is accounted for. If you are in the field of bookkeeping, accounting, or you’re great with math, please give Siggy a hand.
Mini Workshops
Jama Crawford, Chair
New this year will be 12 mini workshops in lapidary and the allied arts. You can take a class … but right now we are recruiting volunteer teachers. Each teacher will donate 3 hours to teach two 90 minute "hands on" lessons, where each student walks out with a simple but beautiful creation. Students will pay material costs, and 100% of the tuition proceeds will benefit the Club. The classes will be held in upstairs classrooms away from the bustle and noise below.
Volunteer Coordination
Millie Sylskar and Elizabeth Craig, Chairs
Over 150 of our Club members checked the box on their membership application form stating they would like to volunteer for the Gem Show. But someone must reach out to every person. If you have a phone and social skills, you can join this team to help our volunteers find jobs they will enjoy and fill every slot.
Sales Tax Collection
Chair To Be Determined
This team requires two or three cheery people who can deal with the grunts and groans that arise when our dealers submit their sales tax accounting forms and payments. This job also requires you to accurately use a hand calculator.
Contracts and Packets
Susie Fisher, Chair
Susie is assembling lots of papers for dealer contracts, as well as additional documents dealers will need at the Show. If you are orderly and can staple neatly, you too can lend a hand.
Educational Displays
Randy Ferris, Chair
Back again by popular demand are an array of interesting educational displays related to earth science, lapidary and the allied arts. This team will recruit exhibitors from the area and help set up and take down. This team is also interested in borrowing a magnificent oversized mineral specimen with lots of wow-factor. If you have one to loan, let us know.
Gold Panning and Other Kids Activities
Wayne Peterson, Chair
Wayne would love a few volunteers who enjoy working with children, and help participants learn how to pan for gold or to play thematic games.
Greeters
Chair to be determined
This team helps coordinate our reception of the public at four points of entry, including collecting the $3 entry fee, attaching or checking for a wristband (which indicates payment), and helping to orient the public to this large event. A welcoming attitude and social skills are a must.
