About the Four Corners Gem & Mineral Club

Lapidary Art Classes include stone cutting and polishingIn the lapidary room, members cut and polish stones.

History
Founded in 1947, the Four Corners Gem & Mineral Club, a 501(c)(3)non-profit organization, strives to educate and inspire interest in earth sciences and lapidary arts. The initial purpose of this organization was rockhounding: to collect and identify rocks, gems and minerals.
Within a year of the Club's inception, it began to acquire lapidary equipment for its members to cut and polish stone. Inevitably this lead to acquiring a wide variety of silversmithing equipment to set those beautiful stones. Today the Club has one of the finest and fully equipped lapidary and metal arts studios in the Four Corners Region, to serve lapidary, casting, soldering, enameling, kiln firing and allied arts. It also leads field trips, offers presentations and classes, and hosts a large Gem and Mineral Show every July.

Mission

Provide residents of the Four Corners region with opportunities to learn about and explore topics in earth sciences, lapidary and allied arts.

Activities
The club has a fully equipped workshop where members can cut and polish their own specimens. Check the times for Open Shop. During Open Shop Members can use the club library to identify rocks, cut rock slabs and polish lapidary specimens, use the metal-smithing tools to produce jewelry. The club has members of varied knowledge and experience, so it is place where techniques and tips are shared. Check our calendar for classes that are offered in jewelry arts, lapidary arts, and metal-smithing.

Board and Annual Membership Meetings: Meeting of the Board of Directors will take place at least once every two months, and the day, time and location will be posted on the Club's web site calendar no later than 10 days in advance.  All members and guests are welcome and encouraged to attend, listen, offer opinions and suggestions during periods of open discussion.  Only current Board members will be allowed to vote.

Annual Membership meetings will take place on the first Monday in October unless members are notified of a change of date at least 10 days in advance.  The meeting will be posted on the Club's web site calendar.  Annual Membership meetings are primarily for the purpose of voting in Officers and Directors to the Club's Board of Directors and to discuss and decide on any other Club business that should come before the membership.
