Scholarship Assistance Program for Gem Club Classes

We get it!
Living expenses are high in our area. We are pleased to announce scholarships are now available to help you participate in Gem Club classes and learn valuable new skills!
Purpose
The purpose of the scholarship assistance program is to help regional residents participate in art classes offered by the Four Corners Gem and Mineral Club, but for whom the full tuition cost is not affordable. Scholarships apply to Gem Show Classes held during the Four Corners Gem and Mineral Show (July 7-9, 2023), or on weekends throughout most of this calendar year (April through November, 2023).
Funding source
The City of Durango Lodgers Tax Fund pays 2/3 the tuition cost, and the student pays 1/3. For example, if a class costs $150, then City funds will pay $100 and the student will pay $50. Approximately 28 awards will be distributed. When the funds are depleted, no further scholarship awards will be issued.
How does it work?
Eligible applicants
Residents of the Four Corners Region are eligible to apply. Preference shall be given to applicants with financial need, residents of La Plata County, and persons who work or volunteer in the hospitality and service sectors of Durango, e.g. food service, lodging, entertainment, retail, and other businesses that serve tourists and visitors. The scholarship committee shall attempt to equitably distribute funds by racial, ethnic or minority status, to reasonably represent local diversity. All decisions of the scholarship committee are final. Students may be awarded more than one scholarship, depending on the availability of funds.
