![]() Established in 1947, the Club is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the earth sciences, local geology and mining history, as well as rock hounding, lapidary and metalsmith arts. We offer the only fully equipped open art studio for lapidary and metalsmith arts in this region. Members enjoy field trips, camping, hiking, special events, classes, skill development, and turning beautiful finds into polished stones and finished jewelry.

Learn More About the Club's Year Round Activities
A wide range of lapidary, metal smith, enamel, casting, and precious metal clay classes are offered to the public throughout the year. Classes are taught by experienced, talented instructors in our well equipped workshop.

Members enjoy a well-equipped lapidary studio with everything needed to cut, grind and polish stone, as well as a complete metal smith and casting shop to make finished jewelry. Helpful Shop Stewards are available during Open Shop hours.

The Club is a grateful recipient of City of Durango Community Lodgers Tax Funds, which will help students with financial need participate in lapidary and metalsmith art classes offered at the Gem Club. The grant will also purchase engraving and stone setting equipment to offer more training in more advanced metalsmith skills.
