Join a Bubble!
This Page is to Enroll in Private Bubbles.
A private bubble is a group of close friends or family members who all want to be in the same bubble. These bubbles are not open to the general membership.
What is a Bubble?
A Bubble is a small group of people who regularly use the Gem Club to work on their projects. It is a private group, restricted to the same participants each session. Bubbles will remain in place until Covid Health Orders are lifted.
Who Should Join a Bubble?
Bubbles are for people who a) would like to attend shop regularly; b) would like to minimize their social contacts this Covid winter; and c) don't object to paying for private sessions in advance.
What is the Purpose of a Bubble?
By reducing your social contacts this winter, you will reduce your risk of exposure to viral disease. A bubble does not guarantee protection from Covid. People must still shop, work and keep appointments, and Covid may spread widely in our community. But the fewer people you see in a month's time, the more likely you will avoid disease.
Who is in a Bubble?
A Bubble is made up of 4 people: a key holder and three paying participants.
What does the Key Holder do?
The key holder is the Bubble Leader. He or she opens and closes the shop and helps paying participants follow the required healthy safety orders. These include wearing masks, taking temperatures, turning on fans to increase ventilation, and leading disinfecting activities. The bubble leader does not pay shop fees. His or her payment is through volunteer service.
What is the fee for Paying Participants?
The fee is the same as Open Shop ($4 per session), except it is paid in advance at $8 a month. The payment is recurring, meaning you will be billed once a month until you quit.
When do Bubbles meet?
Bubbles meet two days a month at a regularly scheduled time. For example, a bubble might meet on the First and Third Friday Afternoons of the month. Or it might meet the Second and Fourth Wednesday Nights.
What if I miss a session?
Refunds will not be issued and it will be difficult to obtain a make-up session. To make-up a missed session, you will need to find a key holder who will open the shop and stay with you during a break in the Club's busy schedule. Make-up sessions are not guaranteed.
What if I want to quit a Bubble?
You may unsubscribe yourself, or you may send an email to the Club to unsubscribe you.
What is a Learning Bubble?
A learning bubble is a group of 4 people who will follow a silversmith curriculum. It starts out easy and gets harder as you go, but participants will advance from beginner to expert skills over the winter. The curriculum will follow Alan Reeve's book titled Professional Jewelry Making. The bubble leader is not a master of this curriculum and will learn alongside students, however the bubble leader has years of silversmith experience to help participants over a hurdle. The fee is the same as other bubbles ($8 per month), but to participate in this group you will also need to purchase your own metal (copper will be adequate for many lessons). A materials list will be provided before the first session.
Is Open Shop still available?
Yes. You may still attend Open Shop as listed on the Club's calendar. Open Shop has no preregistration and you do not have to pay in advance. You pay when you use the Shop. Open Shop does not guarantee you a spot. When four people enter the building, no others may be be admitted, as per Health Orders.
How do I join a bubble?
Subscribe to one of the bubbles below. Your credit card will be charged $8 monthly. Please note, some bubbles are for high risk people who seriously follow Covid health orders only. If you do not closely adhere to health orders for high risk people, do not join a high risk bubble.
Can I lead a bubble?
Yes. Some bubble times are still unclaimed. You can fill your bubble with family or friends, or you can admit general members into your bubble. You can decide if your bubble is high risk or low risk. To lead a bubble email the Club.
