Gem Show Overview

The Show is typically the first Friday thru Sunday after the 4th of July, Attendance is typically 4 to 5 thousand shoppers. The Gem Show supports and promotes membership in the Club, and helps raise funds for an annual Fort Lewis College Geology Student Scholarship and other outreach to the Four Corners region.
The Gem Show is very popular with Dealers and is normally booked at least a year in advance. There is a waiting list to get a Dealer's space at the Gem Show and most openings occur when a Dealer unexpectedly cancels at the last minute.

Gem Show Dealer Guidelines
The 2021 Show be open to the public on
Friday, July 9 from 10 am to 6 pm
Saturday, July 10 from 10 am to 6 pm
Sunday, July 11 from 10 am to 4 pm.
Setup is Thursday, July 8 from noon to 7:30 pm and between 8 am and 10 am on Friday July 9.
Covid Safety. The Club cooperates with public health orders. Presently this region is projected to be at Level Green or Level Blue at the time of the show. Level Green will be a "nearly normal" show with some restrictions on indoor attendance. Masks will be required, and every dealer will supply hand sanitizer for public use. Touchless and/or gloved transactions are also likely to be required. Significant changes affect the layout of booths, especially indoor venues. Returning dealers can expect adjustments to the size and location of indoor booths, and dealers are encouraged to consider outdoor displays where more shoppers may be admitted at one time.
Allowed Merchandise. Dealers must sell items associated with, or related to, gems, minerals, jewelry, and/or lapidary pursuits. A Dealer will be required to obtain written approval from the Show Chairperson before display or sale of merchandise not directly related to gems, minerals, jewelry or the lapidary arts.
Sales Tax. Dealers are required to collect 8.4% sales taxes on any merchandise sold during the Gem Show. Arrangements for payment of collected sales taxes must made with the Show Chairperson at the time of Gem Show contract execution. In 2021, all vendors operating within the City of Durango are required to possess a Durango City Sales Tax License. The first time cost of a City Multiple Events Business and Sales Tax license is $55. Thereafter, the renewal cost will be $25 a year. There are no exceptions to this rule.
Exempt Sales. Dealers who plan to purchase goods for resale should bring multiple copies of their current, valid sales tax license to submit to the seller at the time of purchase. The copy may be a reduced sized so long as the State name, sales tax license number, and expiration date are all legible. Many people make "dollar sized" copies and keep them in their wallet. A current, valid license from any U.S. state is allowed for tax exempt dealer-to-dealer transactions by Colorado State Law. Sellers who conduct wholesale transactions are responsible for obtaining proper documentation from Dealer buyers. Transactions without proper documentation will be subject to sales tax.
NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES OR FIREARMS WILL BE ALLOWED ON THE PREMISES AND NO ANIMALS WILL BE ALLOWED WITHIN THE EXHIBIT HALL OR COUNTY OFFICE BUILDINGS.
At the Dealers own expense, the Dealer may insure against damage, loss or any other injury arising from claims by the public or the injury to persons or property. The Dealer agrees to hold the Club, the Club’s officers and members, and the Fairgrounds blameless and harmless from all liabilities arising out of or concerning the Dealers participation in the Gem Show.
The Club solicits the donation of items to be used at the Club's silent auction. Donations to the club, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit corporation are tax deductible.
Gem Show Spaces
There are four types of Dealer spaces at the Gem Show: inside the Exhibit Hall, inside the Extension Building, on the enclosed outdoor Patio, and on a South lot adjacent to the Patio.
Fees will be similar to last year, however as the space must be reconfigured for Covid-compliant spacing, and booth sizes adjusted accordingly, Dealers should expect to pay somewhat more or less than in a prior year.
Member tables are available to Club members only. These tables are 6 feet long by 18 inches wide; therefore, displays must be scaled accordingly. There is no storage in this area except beneath the table.
Gem Show Space Request
Please complete the Dealer Request Page here if you would like to be a Commercial or Member Dealer at the Gem Show. If openings are available you will receive a reply and be mailed a dealer contract.
