Take a Gem Show Class!
During the 2021 Four Corners Gem and Mineral Show, you will find a variety of fun, affordable and hands-on classes to learn lapidary, metalsmith and related skills. Each class will feature high quality materials to make beautiful, authentic and handmade objects to take home. The classes will be held at La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 North Main, Durango, Colorado, from July 9 to 11, and will be taught by the Club's professional instructors. Your tuition includes all the equipment, tools and materials needed to complete your projects, as well as three days' admission to our 67th annual Gem Show. 100% of proceeds benefit the Club. Fold Form Earrings
In this 90-minute class, you will learn how to hammer flat sheets of fine silver and other metals to form organic 3-dimensional shapes. The pieces will be cut, drilled, filed and combined with pearls and other dangles to make 2 pairs of elegant earrings. Tuition is $51. In this class you will learn how to set stones without using a torch. You will saw, bend, hammer and colorize the setting and chain to complement your stone. In this class you will use rivets to layer and assemble mixed metals and hand-sawn designs. You will take home your own handcrafted and beautiful one-of-a-kind pendant. $92. Sat July 11, 1-4 pm Make a Pet Tag

Cold Connections Earrings
In this class you will learn to saw, die-cut, coil, drill and assemble mixed metals to create simple and elaborate designs. Cabbing Class
Learn how to turn rough stone into cabochons, polished gems ready to set into jewelry. You will learn both traditional and modern methods to finish two stones in this 90-minute, $40 class. Learn how to properly tie pearls with silk thread, to protect these organic gems from breakage and loss. In this 90-minute class you will finish a pearl bracelet with clasp. This 3-hour class will teach you how to use fine glass powders and a kiln to safely fire colorful and lustrous enamel art. Everything is included for you to complete and take home two hand-fired creations. Tuition is $79. Sun July 12, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm Stone Inlay in Wood
In this 90-minute class you will inlay colorful turquoise stone into wood. You will fill your own piece of wood and, while the glue dries, learn the remaining steps by working on dry pieces the instructor has started. Class Location
Classes are held on the 2nd floor of the Exhibit Hall at La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 N. Main, Durango CO. A stairwell and freight elevator are located near the main entrance on the ground floor. Please ask for assistance with the elevator.
Cancellation
Because we will purchase supplies for you, your tuition is not refundable. However, your seat is transferrable. If you are unable to attend, you may give away or sell your seat to another party. If a class is cancelled by the Instructor or by the Club, then you will be notified and fully refunded or you may apply the funds to another class.
